Sorry for neglecting the blog for so long. I was out to Wellington for the weekend without internet and was unable to update.  But now I'm back with lots to blog about and not enough time to do it in

...so I will leave you with this short blog to hold you over. Its another Kiwi word guessing game!

The kiwis have a different word for cookies. Here is your hint:
If Sesame Street originated in NZ Cookie Monster wouldn't be called Cookie Monster and he would sing a song that goes like this,

B is for _______, that's good enough for me
B is for _______, that's good enough for me

B is for _______, that's good enough for me
Oh, _______ _______ _______ starts with B!

These are the final logos I submitted to the competition...

I'll let you folks know who gets chosen and If I get chosen you might not need to go on the internet to hear about it :O!!!!

Here are a few logos I whipped up. I plan to fine tune them tomorrow along with finalizing a mark I've been working on.

This one gives an new-age friendly feel

About a month or two ago Staci and I decided to get pets. We both decided on Sea Monkeys after I expressed my feelings on how unethical Mexican Jumping-beans would be.

Like first-time parents reading how-to books Staci and I read the Sea Monkey's instructions for care manual thoroughly from cover to cover to avoid any irreversible mistakes. Days went by, and like the manual said, we saw that our tank was full of little sea monkeys (or so we thought). I would airrade the water as directed and Staci would add the correct dose of food everyday, yet there were no substantial signs of monkey life. It wasn't long until our worst nightmares were true... we failed at raising the lowest maintenance pet (next to the pet rock of course). We once mistook a died fly floating at the top of the tank for a sea monkey- haha. BUt in actuality this was no laughing matter.

Staci and I long mourned the loss of the millions of happy sea monkeys we could have had.:(

BUT WAIT! This story has a happy ending...

Three days ago Staci sent me this artists depiction of a sea monkey last scene in the tank.

Alas, we had one survivor. We our proud of our little Sea Monkey but there is one next step we have to do and we'd like your help. We have to name the little guy (Staci and I have deducted that the sea monkey's sex is male based on no logical reasoning other than assumption).

We have a list of a few names and we would like to hear your favorite. The name with the most votes will be the decided title for our handsome creature.

here they are
Alberto
Skeet
Zoomie
CharlieBrown
Alfalfa
Porkupine
Bobbymungusswimmerfloat
(i think Staci came up with this one when she was drunk)

Sparky
the Fonz
Jeff Carpenter the III

To help add weight to the votes, please tell your friends about my blog and ask them to share their opinion. Just send them this link: WW.carpenterkiwi.weebly.com

Thanks to all those who participated in this round of "Kiwi Lingo". I will be accepting no further guesses on this object because someone has given the correct answer.

The Kiwis call this shopping cart a trolly. And the winner is Alex Doffing from Hastings Minnesota.  Her prize is still being determined but I assure you that it be a gift worth bragging about.

Keep your eyes peeled for the next Kiwi Lingo.
Better luck next time!

Ok, I'll probably do a series of these...

New Zealand is a place full of quirks that separate it's traditions from our own - for example: they drive cars over here but on the other side of the road AND they call me Jiff instead of Jeff. So, what I'm going to do is post a picture and you will try your hardest to guess the New Zealand way of saying it.  I will later post the answer for you.  And the person with the craziest, creative, or correct word for the object will win a prize, mailed directly to them from me (I'm being serious here). If you participate I'll do my part.

so here is the first object

What do Kiwis call this?

Hey Mates,

Here is an update on The Green Bakery Logo.....
I spent the day sketching out thumbs and I flushed out one of my better ideas.

critiques welcomed

A week before I left for New Zealand I received an email requesting a logo.  Before you start to think that I'm a big deal for getting unsolicited commissions, I'll tell you that the email was sent out to many design students. The email was very brief and did not give much info. Despite its vagueness I was interested, so I replied with a statement and a PDF of recent logo designs that I have done.

About a week later I got another email with more info (More but not much more). Essentially, The Green Bakery is a business that bakes organic gluten-free vegan bread products and they are holding a contest for best logos.  There will be First, second, and third place winners with $350, $100, and $50 prizes listed respectively.

I am currently sketching up designs but I would like to speak with the business directly before I design anything concrete. I'll keep you updated with my process!

current logo

I am currently working on an Identity project with Gunnar Cook Photography. Gunnar Cook is a photographer based out of his home in Hastings MN.  His work is extensive and ranges from Weddings to Grad Photos.  His fresh photography is growing popular amongst the Hastings community and surrounding cities.  Here is a link to his site:

Gunnar Cook Photography should have a new identity system by the end of the month.
Keep your eyes open for it!
